This Maternity Session was a dream to shoot! It was casual and fun, there was endless time to be creative, we all got along so well and laughed together so much, and in the end we created some of my favorite photographs ever. What makes it even better – I feel like I have a new friend in this momma-to-be!
During the first pre-consult phone call, Jill told me that her and Scott are “homebodies” and wanted their session to reflect their personalities. With that as our inspiration we decided to take their maternity portraits at their beautiful home, nestled in the woods near where I grew up. We utilized their yard and the blue siding of their home, as well as interior environments like the nursery and bedroom.
Scott, I just have to say – You the real MVP! I know you weren’t as giddy and excited about this session as Jill & I were, but thanks so much for being awesome (on Super Bowl Sunday no less!!!) and helping make these images so great!
Some of the first images we took involved these baby timberlands. Aren’t they sooo cute? The sun was shining through the tall trees surrounding their home and it made for the perfect backdrop to start off our session. {Which turned into an awesome Canvas Gallery Wrap for their home!}
We then moved into the nursery, where Jills dad had just built wall to wall shelving. It was gorgeous!! Since Jill requested a silhouette shot, we made sure to create one in the large open windows. <3
Some of the best images from the session were taken in their bedroom, though. This dramatic partial silhouette instantly became my fave!
The perfect mix of window light and my flash made this gorgeous sequence of images!
Jills favorite book growing up was “Goodnight Moon”. I’m so glad we were able to incorporate it into the session!!
One of my favorite “Gotta have them All” products is the Session Box ~ It’s a custom designed archival storage box that holds one 4×6 lustre print of each image from a portrait session. This will end up looking awesome in the nursery on the wall to wall shelving!
After this session, I’m excited for more At-Home Maternity and Newborn shoots – It was so much fun!!
