Winter, 2015 and Fall, 2017
Having grown up in Sussex County, NJ I always get excited when I have the opportunity to work up there. I don’t mind traveling up at all because I know the mountains, fall foliage, and environment will always be beautiful for a photographer who specializes in outdoor family photography.
One of the many things I miss most about living in Sussex County is the size of the yards that give you distance from your neighbors. Growing up I was always playing my backyard… building forts with my bothers, playing on the swing set and looking for salamanders in the woods. My backyard always had a beautiful view of trees and fields and I miss that about my home town!
This season I’ve have the pleasure of photographing at many of my clients homes, in my opinion – that’s sometimes the best location! It’s a place you and the kids feel comfortable, where you play and make memories, it’s where you’ve grown your love and your family. For this loving family, that was the case. I always love photographing at their home – Jill is an amazing home decorator and their yard is gorgeous! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to post the two images above – two different years and seasons, expecting their first and second child. Same great location and same great love, just 1.5 years apart.
This family is expecting baby #2 any day now, and I’m thrilled to share their maternity session with you before she comes!
Having written about amazing back yards… This family has a romantic one with a rock wall and climbing ivy. We didn’t have the opportunity to photograph back here for their first maternity session, so I knew exactly where to start for this one! I’ve been eyeing it up for over a year! It was an unseasonably warm fall afternoon at the end of October, and the sun was shining bright, which made for the perfect lighting.
We incorporated big brother H* into the session as much as we could, and let him play with his trucks and the leaves in between.
It was so amazing seeing how big he’s gotten since his newborn session last March, how smart and curious he is, and how snuggly he is with his parents. I couldn’t help but create another comparison from then and now.
He may not fully understand what’s about to happen, but I have a feeling he’s going to be an AMAZING big brother!
One of their favorite photos from their last maternity session was in the front yard in front of these tree’s with a pair of baby Timberlands. They ordered an adorable pair of baby girl shoes to use in this session and we re-created their poses. <3
This time around the fall leaves were vibrant and yellow – absolutely gorgeous – and they matched the little gold heart on the shoes perfectly!
Before the end of the session, we did an outfit change and moved over to the pine trees in their side yard. As Jill wrote on Instagram, she looked and felt like a glamorous maternity goddess and I cannot agree more! This dress is to die for, and as always Jill is glowing and gorgeous!
Thanks for reading along and celebrating with this family as they’re about to welcome their baby girl into the world!
