This outdoor maternity session was planned to be “Earthy” and beautiful… We succeeded!
When an email came through my inbox from a past client (who had one of my favorite portrait sessions ever – check it out here.) requesting an “Earth Mother” styled session outside for her maternity photos and family photos this year I was so excited. Not only is this theme so “me” but I knew it would be epic based on our last portrait session together. I suggested a few locations and they chose one of my FAVORITES – Princeton Battlefield State Park. Her regal, flowy, red dress was a perfect match for the old structures, tall pines, and open fields available at this location ~ standing out in a bold, fiercely beautiful, motherly kind of way. I tried to work with the sun for an ethereal feel and use the proportion of the trees to symbolize how strong a mother is.
Working with clients multiple times is a great way to build rapport and comfortability with kids. They came to this session knowing that we were going to have fun together and were perfect the whole time, giving me great genuine smiles. I already knew them a little bit and was able to prompt them with some silly comments and “activities” to really get them laughing. I love these photos of the boys! One might even make it into the 2022 Blooper Reel Blog Post! 😂

One big request from their portrait session was flowy dress portraits. We were able to create a few of them throughout their session and this one was my favorite! You’d never know that Dad was both IN the photo AND the “dress floofer”…. He did amazing! (Special Thanks to Adobe Photoshop for giving me the software to make a composite image like this happen for them.
