This family session started with an email from Michael about setting up a portrait session as a surprise birthday present for his wife. He suggested doing it at Mercer Lake where they had their engagement session done, and I knew right away that these were my kind of people. I could tell they were sentimental and valued family photos. (And what a perfect gift!)

We met on what must have been the coldest morning in all of May, unfortunately. You’d never know from their faces though! Things like this happen, so having some extra layers and patience while we all warmed up in the car between locations made all the difference! Jean jackets and pretty dresses are a favorite look, so I think it worked out in the end! We created family photos on the walkway out into the lake, and also up on the hill overlooking the lake. I had almost forgot how beautiful this location was. As always, we created a mix of poses and groupings including grandparents and the sweetest pup ever. And as a reward we ended the session on the playground, creating candid photos of everyone playing – The perfect way to end the day! Despite the weather we created some of my favorite portraits of the year. I’m looking forward to working with this family again – we came as strangers and left as friends.
